<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problems, in a system where the PC and the image reading device are connected with each other: a high cost occurs due to the requirement of a RAM within a device if image processing is performed mainly in the image reading device; and a tone jump occurs especially in a dark portion of an image due to a gamma conversion by eight bit in input and output images processed in consideration of display gamma characteristics if the image processing is mainly performed in a PC. <P>SOLUTION: Within the image reading device 30, an LUT 33a is included which applies a gamma correction as well as converting an image signal scanned into an image with an 8 bit tone, whereas inside a computer 38, an LUT 33b is included which applies gamma correction as well as converting an image signal, received from the image reading device 30, with a 8 bit tone into an image with a 16 bit tone and further an LUT 33c is included which applies a gamma correction used for output as well as converting the corrected image signal again into an image with an 8 bit tone. The LUT 33a and the LUT 33c are equal in gamma value, whereas the gamma value in the LUT 33b is the reciprocal of the gamma value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
