<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably generate X-ray laser by using such a structure that condenses a pulse laser excitation light linearly on a tape-like target. <P>SOLUTION: One end of a tape target 11 in the winding direction is fixed to a first reel 12, and it is wound around the first reel 12 in the initial state. In the X-ray laser generating apparatus 10, a rotary torque is produced in a first motor 15 and/or a second motor 17 when a pulse laser excitation light is applied to the tape target 11 to cause tension to act on the tape target 11.
