摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber, a method of designing the same, and an optical wavelength multiplex communication system capable of increasing the number of transmittable signal wavelengths and input power in a WDM system. <P>SOLUTION: In a PCF 1 including a core part and a clad part surrounding the core part, wherein the core part and the clad part are made of a medium having a uniform light refractive index and a plurality of uniform voids are formed in the clad part along the longitudinal direction, the PCF1 includes a void structure in which the value of a ratio d/Λbetween the diameter d of the voids 2 and the intervalΛof the voids 2 is 0.42 to 0.63 and which can propagate only two modes of a fundamental propagation mode LP01 and a first harmonic mode LP11 of a signal light, wherein the bend lossαb in a bend radius of 30 mm is equal to or less than 0.005 dB/m, and the magnitude of effective cross-sectional area A<SB>eff</SB>is 150μm<SP>2</SP>or more in all wavelength regions from about 1.0 to about 1.7μm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p>
