A display apparatus and a method for providing a user interface (UI) applicable thereto, are provided. The display apparatus controls so that, if a direction of a user gesture recognized at a gesture recognizing unit is within a first range from a first direction, an item arranged at a predetermined location is selected from among items listed in the user menu, in which the first direction is vertical to a direction of the user menu layout. As a result, the user can operate the user menu conveniently with his bodily gestures such as hand gestures. |
