PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve photographic subject tracking performance under a flicker light source. SOLUTION: Images produced by an image forming optical system are repeatedly imaged. A reference image of a photographic subject for tracking is established from the imaged first image (initial image). Simultaneously in a second image (comparison image) imaged after the first image, the position of a partial image similar to the reference image is searched. When tracking the photographic subject for tracking moving in an imaging screen, an exposure time of imaging means is controlled so that imaging of the first image takes a longer exposure time T0 than imaging of the second image.
