<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve a desired element, which cannot be retrieved in a conventional manner, from an electronic document. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A retrieval device includes: a condition setting unit for setting retrieval conditions for a user to retrieve an element to be retrieved from the electronic document; and a retrieve processing unit for retrieving the element to be retrieved from the electronic document in accordance with the retrieval conditions set by the condition setting means. The condition setting unit is configured in such a manner that a user can set a primary retrieval condition to retrieve a primary retrieval element from the electronic document, and a secondary retrieval condition to retrieve a secondary retrieval element from the electronic document on the basis of the primary retrieval element. At least one conditional element of the secondary retrieval condition satisfies correlation of an element itself of the secondary retrieval element or an attribute thereof to an element itself of the primary retrieval element or an attribute thereof except for positional correlation between the primary retrieval element and the secondary retrieval element.
