PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device with high reliability and safety by performing two-way abnormality diagnoses of a ROM and a RAM without increasing an ROM capacity. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device includes a microcomputer, a CPU that carries out control arithmetic processing based on a program etc. stored in the ROM in the microcomputer, and the RAM that forms a memory region. The CPU calculates a current command value of a motor that gives a steering auxiliary force to the steering system of a vehicle based on at least steering torque in collaboration with the ROM and the RAM and performs assist control based on the current command value. In this device, a ROM abnormality diagnosis program is built in the ROM and a ROM abnormality diagnosing function is provided that transfers the ROM abnormality diagnosis program to the RAM on or before diagnosing an abnormality and diagnoses an abnormality of the ROM based on the transferred ROM abnormality diagnosis program.
