<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, capable of optimally controlling light on/off of a console panel without troubling an apparatus manager. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a person detecting sensor 12 for person's approach to the apparatus body; a counter 21 for counting the detection results of the sensor 12 in each predetermined time zone; and a control circuit part 20 for controlling the apparatus including lighting/extinguishing of the console panel 10. The control circuit part 20 switches between lighting and extinguishing of the console panel 10 based on the counting results of the counter 21. That is, in a time zone where a large number of persons approach, the console panel 10 is continuously lighted, and in a time zone where a small number of persons approach, the console panel 10 is extinguished.
