<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow users to easily adjust the density of a latent image portion and a background portion in a tint block image to be printed, and to perform the density adjustment without requiring much time therefor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Normal time 5171 is a case where a density change of a tint block image is settled within a block width and a density adjustment amount is relatively small, and operation is enabled only by selecting a relative value. Variation width expansion time 5172 is a case where the density change exceeds the block width and the adjustment amount is increased accordingly, and the change of a reference value is also implemented together. Finally, full control time 5173 is a case where a foreground density adjustment is performed in addition to the background density adjustment, and the density adjustment of a latent image is performed. Thus, while sequentially shifting from operation with a small adjustment amount to operation to a large adjustment amount, a point at which the density of the foreground and the density of the background become approximately equal, is searched and by implementing the searches while changing the range of adjustment step by step, the point at which the foreground and the background become equal can be surely searched.
