<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the difference between an input video and a display performance of a video display device. <P>SOLUTION: A sharpening processing unit is equipped with: a frequency state determination section (104) for receiving an input video signal in a prescribed signal format, where a pseudo high resolution video signal having up-converted relatively low resolution video content and a high resolution video signal including originally high resolution video content can be mixed, and for determining a frequency state (histogram) of the video content included in the input video signal; a sharpening band pass filter (108), where a signal component used for sharpening processing of video is fetched from among the input video signals and frequency response characteristics change depending to a frequency state determination result by the frequency state determination section; and a sharpening processing section (110) for sharpening the input video signal by the signal component fetched from the sharpening band pass filter.
