PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration in efficiency of an image output apparatus capable of displaying a preview.

SOLUTION: A composite machine is an image output apparatus that executes a job of printing (outputting) an image and displays a preview of the image on a display section before printing. A control apparatus equipped in the composite machine selects either one processing of first control processing for allowing the composite machine to execute a job corresponding to the displayed preview and second control processing for making the job corresponding to the displayed preview be in a hold state (S52). When a state with no operation performed by a user continues for a prescribed period of time during preview display, the control apparatus executes the control processing selected in the S52 (S56).
