PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet storage device that can reduce the misalignment of paper sheets in storage. SOLUTION: A primary holding device 30 takes bills into the primary holding device 30 from a transfer route L6, and supports and stores the bills by means of a stage 41 and a movable storage wall 45. The stage 41, which can carry bills 44 stacked on a carrier part 41a, is driven by a belt 39 forward (upward) and backward (downward). The movable storage wall 45, which supports the lower ends of the bills, is loaded forward along a bottom guide 46. When the stage 41 is retreated from the initial position by a predetermined distance, the lower back end of the stage 41 abuts on the movable storage wall 45. When the stage 41 is retreated from the initial position beyond the predetermined distance, the lower back end of the stage 41 abuts on the movable storage wall 45 to move the movable storage wall 45 backward.
