PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device which increases a reading and writing speed and improves fault resistance in accordance with the kinds of data, and a storage-controlling method therefor. SOLUTION: In the storage-controlling method in the storage device equipped with a plurality of HDDs, the storage device stores data by means of two storage methods, that is, a divisional storage method (for example, RAID0) which divides data into a plurality of data and stores them in the plurality of HDDs and a duplicative storage method (for example, RAID1) which stores the same data in duplication in the plurality of HDDs. The storage device determines the kinds of data which it obtains and then refers to a preliminarily stored table to store the obtained data either by the divisional storage method or by the duplicative storage method in accordance with the kinds of the data.
