The method involves integrating tank ventilation valve in a tank arrangement of an internal combustion engine (10). The pressure prevailing in a tank (50) and a collecting vessel is increased above the ambient pressure. The tank ventilation valve is controlled in an open position and the pressure pattern in the tank and the collecting vessel is monitored. The correct or faulty function of the tank ventilation valve or a vent pipe is detected from the pressure pattern after controlling the tank ventilation valve. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control- and regulating device for an internal combustion engine; and (2) a computer program.
