The drive (1) has a primary hydraulic machine (2) driven by a drive unit (10) and forming a closed hydraulic circuit with a secondary hydraulic machine (8) over high and low pressure pipes (4, 6). A third hydraulic machine (24) is arranged in a flow path between the high pressure pipe and a hydraulic accumulator (20) and coupled with a fourth hydraulic machine (26) arranged in a flow path between the low pressure pipe and a tank (T). The primary machine is used as a hydro pump. A pressure relief valve (36) is attached between the accumulator and the third machine. The secondary hydraulic machine is used as a hydraulic motor. The third and fourth hydraulic machines are designed as gear wheel machines.
