<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for making the heat generated by a discharge lamp difficult to reach a circuit component, relating to a discharge lamp unit that supports the discharge lamp. <P>SOLUTION: A discharge lamp unit 1 includes a discharge lamp support 21 for supporting a discharge lamp 11, and circuit components (starter transformer 63, noise reducing coil 64, or the like) for supplying power to the discharge lamp 11 supported by the discharge lamp support 21. A wiring 25 for electrically connecting them includes a heatsink 26 whose surface area per unit length is set larger than the other portion of the wiring 25. Thus, the thermal energy held by the heatsink 26 can be easily moved to a material contacting the heatsink 26. As a result, the calorific value released through the wiring 25 can be increased, thereby reducing a calorific value transferred to the circuit component.
