VISUAL INSPECTION METHOD AND APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time and labor by automatically setting a division area required for the verification of the continuity of cracks when the cracks have occurred in an object to be inspected. SOLUTION: An edge image is generated at an edge image generating part 12 on the basis of an original image, a grayscale image acquired by imaging the object to be inspected 1 by a TV camera 2. A processing part 15 detects a crack candidate from the edge image. A division area generating part 17 divides an inspection region into a plurality of small sections by auxiliary division lines passing through an inspection start point set on a boundary line of the inspection region and generates division areas by further dividing each small section in different directions. A crack determination part 18 determines the crack candidate as cracks when the number of division areas over which the crack candidate extends is equal to or greater than a threshold.
