METHOD FOR MODIFYING CROSSLINKED POLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying a crosslinked organic polymer to dissolve it in water by treating the crosslinked organic polymer having a strong acid group under a moderate condition in an aqueous solution having a lower temperature than the critical temperature.

SOLUTION: The method for modifying the crosslinked organic polymer includes bringing the crosslinked organic polymer having a strong acid group into contact with an alkaline aqueous solution having pH of 12 or higher, at a temperature of 300-370°C and pressure equal to or higher than saturated water vapor pressure, thereby dissolving the crosslinked organic polymer in the alkaline aqueous solution.
