PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which potential for abuse of a drug can be reduced by formulating/or administering an opioid formulation having reduced potential of illegal sale and distribution for treating pain. SOLUTION: The opioid formulation includes at least one opioid, and a sustained release delivery system. Furthermore, the sustained release delivery system comprises at least one hydrophilic compound, and further comprises a specific combination selected from among a crosslinking agent, pharmaceutical diluent, hydrophobic polymer, and cationic crosslinking compound.
