PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise detection accuracy of a developer pattern by transfer of a groove part of a supply member, developer stripes to be generated in accordance with state change of developer, and image density. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has: a developing part 30 which has a supply member 34 having the groove part 342 in a first direction, and a developer carrier which carries liquid developer supplied from the supply member 34; an image carrier 10 which carries an image developed by the developing 30; and an optical sensor 21 which has a light emitting part 210 which emits light on the image of the image carrier 10, a first light receiving part 211 which receives the light emitted by the light emitting part and reflected on the image, and a second light receiving part 212 which is arranged at a position different from that of the first light receiving part 211 to receive the light emitted by the light emitting part and reflected on the image, wherein a virtual line which connects the light emitting part 210 and the first light receiving part 211 is differentiated from the first direction of the groove part 342 and a moving direction of the image carrier 10.
