PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool whose individual cutting edge life is verified and determined with a single glance during cutting. SOLUTION: In the cutting tool such as a throwaway tip 1, a coating layer 3 as a laminate of a high-lightness underlayer 3L and a low-brightness overlying layer 3U is formed on a surface of a substrate 2.
