<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user M to ascend/descend in a stable posture when ascending/descending by gripping a handrail 8 on a step 4 between upper and lower stairs 2 and 3 of a floor surface 1. <P>SOLUTION: The handrail 8 includes: an upside horizontal portion 13 which is horizontally or almost horizontally mounted in accordance with the floor surface 1 in a range from the upper stair 2 to the lower one 3, so that a lower-stair-side end 13a can be positioned to be displaced to the side of the lower stair 3 by a predetermined distance X with respect to a position corresponding to the step-side end 2a of the upper stair 2 of the floor surface 1; and an inclined portion 14 which continues to the lower-stair-side end 13a of the upside horizontal portion 13, and which is mounted so as to be inclined downward to the floor surface 1 of the lower stair 3.
