<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field device and a method of providing a download file, downloading valuable software with limitation without depending on the functions of higher-level devices such as a host computer and a download tool. <P>SOLUTION: The field device which operates based on software downloaded from a higher-level device has a collating and managing unit which obtains the software and a download file having device characteristic unique information of the field device, by downloading them from the higher-level device, and which collates the device unique information of the field device with the device unique information of the download file.
