PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack shaft support device suppressing the occurrence of an abnormal noise due to wear of a rack guide, and to provide a rack-and-pinion type steering device using the same. SOLUTION: The rack shaft support device 10 includes a housing 4 for storing a rack shaft 3 engaged with a pinion shaft 2 in a reciprocating manner, a guide section 12 arranged in the housing 4, the rack guide 11 housed in the guide section 12 in an advancing/retreating manner, and pressing and supporting the rack shaft 3 relative to the pinion shaft 2, and an energizing member 20 arranged in the guide section 12, and abutting on the peripheral section of the end surface 11c of the rack guide 11 and energizing the rack guide 11 to the rack shaft 3 side.
