PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial leather having excellent texture and bend crease appearance and a method for producing the artificial leather in high efficiency. SOLUTION: The artificial leather includes a substrate layer and a surface layer formed on a least one surface of the substrate layer, wherein the substrate layer comprises a polymeric elastomer and a fiber bundle containing a plurality of ultrafine filaments, the surface layer comprises the polymeric elastomer and the ultrafine filaments extended from the substrate layer, a region free from the polymeric elastomer is present between the surface layer and the substrate layer, the region forms a void at least partly divided with the ultrafine filaments, and the average length of the void in the thickness direction is 10-200μm.
