<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out further power saving operation by an inverter driven compressor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Change of illuminance of an installation environment of the refrigerator is detected, and by automatically carrying out power saving operation, and operating the compressor at a number of revolutions lower than a number of revolutions of a commercial power supply even during normal operation in addition to an energy saving mode being the power saving operation, further power saving is achieved. By controlling an electric element such that it is in a high load cooling mode of carrying out operation at a number of revolutions higher than the number of revolutions of the commercial power supply only when a high load is applied, and rotating the compressor at low rotation by narrowing focus on the energy saving mode and during normal cooling being 80% or more in annual usage of the refrigerator, significant power saving can be carried out in a refrigerator actual product.
