The plastic preform (1) has a liquid-tight base body (2) for accommodating foodstuffs. An opening (4) has a circular or ring shaped flange (6), which outwardly extends in a radial direction of the preform, where the flange is flexibly formed in a sectional area. A semi-circular and radially, outwardly extending recess (8) is formed below the flange for retaining the preform. The flange is arranged on the base body over a circular connection section (12), where a wall thickness of the connection section is larger than a wall thickness of the flange. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing an expandable plastic preform.
