The method involves implementing a transmission (4) of a hybrid drive strand as automatic or automated transmission, where the transmission is switched between a drive device and an output. The drive strand is provided with an accelerator pedal and a brake pedal. A gear change is released in the automatic or automated transmission if the brake pedal is actuated during coasting mode of the drive strand by an unactuated accelerator pedal. The gear change released by manipulation of the brake pedal is implemented as coast upshift in a delayed manner.
