<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional proton conductor formed from a polymer material is not stably operated at a high temperature in the case when the conventional proton conductor is used as an electrolyte in a fuel cell because the conventional proton conductor is insufficient in heat resistance, chemical stability and dimensional stability and hardly operates stably as a proton conductor at a temperature higher than 100°C. <P>SOLUTION: Proton conductive silica at least has an anionic group represented by formula (1), and has proton conductivity of ≥0.1 S/cm under conditions that the temperature is 150°C and the relative humidity is 100%. In the formula (1), X is a substituent selected from C<SB>m</SB>H<SB>2m</SB>(m=1-10), C<SB>m</SB>F<SB>2m</SB>(m=1-10), C<SB>m</SB>Cl<SB>2m</SB>(m=1-10), C<SB>m</SB>Br<SB>2m</SB>(m=1-10), phenyl group, benzyl group, naphthyl group, and anthryl group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
