<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve washing performance of a washing machine by appropriately controlling drum rotation speed while washing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A water tank 3 is attached with a vibration detection means 6 to detect vibration. A frequency component calculation means 9 extracts from the vibration a frequency component corresponding to the rotation speed of a drum 1. A state of clothes is accurately grasped to determine the number of rotation by an optimal processing method.
