Class 123 (ii) [Also in Group XXVIII] A supporting sling 1 for, for example, the drum 2 of a water-tube boiler comprises a plurality of flexible steel wire, &c. strands preferably woven into a rope or ropes 3, say three as shown. The ends of the ropes are each spliced to a solid forged thimble 5 which is engaged on a pin 6 mounted between the arms of a fork 7, the stem of the latter being provided with a nut 11 for supporting it from a bearing plate 9 on an overhead structure 10. The ropes may be positioned longitudinally along the drum by a plurality of flats 13, or a grooved metal pad, welded to the underside of the drum.</p> |
