<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rational anti-panic mechanism of a vehicle door latch device. <P>SOLUTION: In this anti-panic mechanism of the vehicle door latch device, an anti-panic spring 36 is elastically displaced when a lock lever 30 is displaced from a lock position L to an unlock position U while an open lever 27 is displaced to a door opening operation position to switch the lock lever 30 to the unlock position U without moving an operation piece 35. The operation piece 35 is arranged to rotate centered on a lock shaft 31.
