An endless-band conveyer is formed from a series of plates one end of each of which is connected to a carrier member carried by endless driving means while the other end of each plate is supported directly or indirectly by the next adjacent plate for movement both laterally and longitudinally with respect to said adjacent plate. As shown, Fig. 3, a pair of endless chains form the driving means and each carrier member is a cross bar 12, which together with one end of each plate 9 is secured on a stud welded on a link 14 of each chain, by of a nut 13. The other end of each plate is slidable longitudinally and laterally with respect to a preceding cross bar 12 by means of a bracket 17 secured to the plate and forming with the plate a slot into which the horizontal flange of cross bar 12 projects. Alternatively, adjacent plates may overlap, the overlapping ends being provided with a hole and a slot respectively through which the stud on link 14 projects in which case the bracket 17 may optionally be dispensed with. Cross bar 12 may in this form be of L-section. In another form the link 14 is U-shaped to form two studs on which the overlapping ends of adjacents plates are placed. The endless chains 15, 16, are guided with lateral play in guides 19, 20. Fig. 1, mounted on the division plate 18 of a double casing for two superposed conveyer runs. The cross bars 12 have lateral play between guards 2 and the lateral edges of the plates work in slots 7, 8 of the casing with lateral play. Plates 9 may be trapezoidal with the free end as the shorter side or may have curved lateral edges. The plates 9 may be supported between the chains by idler rollers in which case cross bars 12 are downwardly concave. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, the chains are placed together and interconnected by bars 28 at intervals, which are guided by guides 30, 32. Portions 33 of guides 32 support the plates 9. Guides 34 having mating'ends support cross bars 12 on the return run. |
