PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a displacement in a horizontal direction when a button is moved in a vertical direction. SOLUTION: A button holding device 1 comprises a base member 10; a first linkage member 20 supported at its base end by the base member 10 in such a way that it can be turned and reciprocated in a forward or rearward direction and having button holding segments 26L, 26R at the tip part thereof; and a second linkage member 15 rotatably supported at its one end by the base member 10 and rotatably connected to a middle part of the first linkage member 20 at the other end thereof. A distance from a connected portion between the first linkage member 20 and the second linkage member 15 to the button holding segments 26L, 26R is set to be longer than a distance from the base end of the first linkage member 20 to a connected portion of the second linkage member 15 so as to constitute a pseudo Scot-Raschel mechanism.
