<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily eliminate influence of external light in emitting and receiving light concurrently. <P>SOLUTION: When a display device displays an image and receives light on a display surface simultaneously or alternately, processes of causing the display surface to emit light to display the image and receiving the incident light on the display surface are performed at the same time. In the process of receiving the incident light, two steps of receiving light are performed, in a state where the display surface emits light for displaying the image (Step S11) and in a state where the display surface does not emit light (Step S12). The difference of the amount of the received light in the two steps is detected (Step S13) to detect a contact state or an adjacent state to the display surface.
