<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high resolution and high definition image forming apparatus which uses a surface-emitting laser as a light source and is excellent in the formation of narrow lines even at a high speed condition. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a charging means for charging the electrophotographic photoreceptor, a means for forming an electrostatic latent image by a surface-emitting laser array, a means for developing the electrostatic latent image into a toner image, a means for transferring the toner image to a transfer object body, a toner removing means, and a fixing means for fixing the toner image. The electrophotographic photoreceptor has a photosensitive layer and a protective layer on a conductive base, and the protective layer contains a crosslinked product including a compound having a guanamine structure or a melamine structure and a charge transport material having at least one group selected from -OH, -OCH<SB>3</SB>, -NH<SB>2</SB>, -SH, and -COOH, and the content of a charge transport material in the crosslinked product is ≥95 mass%, and the sum of film thicknesses of the photosensitive layer and the protective layer is 20 to 30 μm.
