<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device making an appropriate clearance between a stopper piston and an inner wall of a fitting hole. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The stopper piston 30 restricting relative rotation between a sprocket 11 and a vane rotor 14 is housed axially reciprocatingly in a housing hole 47 of the vane rotor 14, and has a sliding part 31 slid with the inner wall of the housing hole 47 and a fitting part 32 fittable into the fitting hole 34 of the sprocket 11. The center of axis of the fitting part 32 is eccentric with respect to the sliding part 31. When abutment parts of the vane rotor 14 and the housing abut on each other, an appropriate fitting clearance is formed between an outer wall opposite to the direction of eccentricity of the fitting part 32 and the inner wall of the fitting ring 33.
