<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device that can finely control dimming while suppressing an increase in the cost. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display device displays an image by using image data while changing transmittance for the light projected from a light source, and the device includes: a liquid crystal panel to display an image; a backlight that irradiates the display screen of the liquid crystal panel with light in an approximately parallel to the screen; a light guide unit that reflects the projected light by a reflecting face, upon irradiating the liquid crystal panel with the reflected light, and changes reflecting directions of the reflecting face by rotational movement via a rotation unit so as to irradiate the liquid crystal panel while moving the light in a sub-scanning direction of the liquid crystal panel; and a control unit that controls the rotation of the rotation unit on the basis of the image data.
