<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device capable of adding an electric field having superior uniformity in electron emitting elements. <P>SOLUTION: The light-emitting device 10 is equipped with an anode electrode 11, the electron emitting element 16 which is installed opposed to the anode electrode 11 and emits electrons by application of the electric field, a shadow mask 14 which is installed on the electron emitting element 16 and equipped with an opening 14a, and a gate electrode 13 which is installed between the anode electrode 11 and the shadow mask 14, and equipped with the opening 13a. When the radius of the opening 13a of the gate electrode 13 is made Rg, the radius of the opening 14a of the shadow mask 14 is made Rm, a distance separated between the gate electrode 13 and the shadow mask 14 is denoted by hg and the thickness of the shadow mask is denoted by hm, Rg, Rm, hg and hm satisfy 1.5≤Rg/Rm≤1.87, 1.5≤Rm/hg≤2.0, and hm/hg≤0.2.
