<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for preventing the attachment of pitch which is usable for inhibition and prevention of pitch trouble in a production process of pulp and paper, and easily producible by a simple installation not requiring a special installation: and to provide a method for preventing the attachment of the pitch by using the agent. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The agent for preventing the attachment of the pitch contains a cation-modified polyvinyl alcohol obtained by the reaction of adding a compound having an amino group to a polyvinyl alcohol as an active ingredient.
