PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reducing a cleaning time of contact glass, a document transporting/reading device, and a copy machine. SOLUTION: When the rear end of a document passes through a reading position, a cleaning member 160 is moved in the same direction as a document transport direction, and first contact glass 154 is moved at the same speed as the moving speed of the cleaning member 160 in the direction opposite to the document transport direction. When each of the first contact glass 154 and the cleaning member 160 moves by a distance A, the cleaning member 160 is moved in the direction opposite to the document transport direction, and the first contact glass 154 is moved in the same direction as the document transport direction.
