<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separation apparatus using an air stream for separating and removing light contaminants mixed in a granular material such as synthetic resin pellets by virtue of an air stream. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The separation apparatus using an air stream includes a vertical cylinder separator body 1 equipped with an exhaust port 11 disposed on its upper part and with a material discharge port 12 disposed on its lower end, a baffle cylinder 2 concentrically disposed in the middle part of the separator body 1 with an annular space 30 formed therearound, a material feeding means of feeding a granular material g comprising light contaminants f, p together with primary air A1 into the annular space 30 in the tangential direction, and a secondary air introduction means that introduces secondary air A2 into a lower space 32 of the separator body 1. The granular material g comprising the light contaminants f, p fed thereinto spirally ascends, circling in the annular space 30 by riding the primary air A1 and the secondary air A2 blowing upward from below, to reach the upper space of the separator body 1 wherein the granular material g falls downward according to the decrease of the air velocity while the separated light contaminants f, p riding the spirally ascending air stream are discharged from the exhaust port 11.
