<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a genuine label and a label printer, which can recognize visually whether the label is the genuine label, and can distinguish whether the genuine label is attached to the label printer by the label printer itself to proceed to a usual printing if decided to be the genuine label. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A position detecting mark 5 of black rectangular shape is formed from one side arm of the rear surface of a pasteboard 3. A reflective sensor 7 is arranged in the position of Y1 just under the position detecting mark 5. On the other hand, the label detecting mark 6 is formed between the adjoining position detecting marks 5 while being shifted in the position against the position detecting mark 5 in the width direction. The reflective sensor 8 is arranged in the position of Y2 just under the label detecting mark 6. The label is distinguished whether it is genuine or not by detecting the label detecting mark 6 with the reflective sensor 8 and comparing the number of times of occurrence of a low level detection signal with the number of times set in advance.
