The simulation model has multiple characteristics for a respective catalytic type. The characteristics are detected during an endurance test of the catalyst. The characteristics characterize a respective degree of deterioration of the catalyst between its complete conversion power and a threshold for a necessary catalyst replacement depending on the degree of deterioration.
