Provided is a parking assistance device capable of smoothly initiating automatic steering control without requiring any special operation after a target parking position is confirmed. The parking assistance device has a target parking position setting unit for setting a target parking position; a guide route computing unit that computes a guide route to the target parking position; a notification information output unit that notifies the driver that automatic steering has been enabled when a guide route is established; a non-hold state detection unit that detects whether or not there is a non-hold state in which the driver is not holding the steering device; and a guide initiation decision unit that initiates guiding by means of automatic steering with the determination of a state in which the vehicle can be guided to the target parking position by means of automatic steering, on the condition that a guiding route has been established and the non-hold state has been confirmed.
