Provided is a method for preparing aluminum hydroxide by catalytic decomposition of sodium aluminate solution, comprising the following steps: combining sodium aluminate solution, methanol as catalyst and an inducer; and catalytically decomposing the resulting sodium aluminate solution to prepare aluminum hydroxide, wherein the inducer is selected from a group of alumina, alumina hydrates and aluminum hydroxide. Also provided is a use of combination of methanol as catalyst and the inducer in the process for preparing aluminum hydroxide by catalytic decomposition of sodium aluminate solution, wherein methanol as catalyst and the inducer are used together for the catalytic decomposition, and the inducer is selected from a group of alumina, alumina hydrates and aluminum hydroxide.
