PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "an image processing apparatus and a method of detecting four corners in a rectangular frame", capable of accurately detecting the four corners in the rectangular frame imaged in a pick-up image, irrespective of an influence of a distortion of the pick-up image. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus/method includes a painting-out part 32 for painting out an inside of an outline shape 202 extracted out of the pick-up image by an outline shape extracting part 31, a corner value calculating part 33 for calculating a corner value of a detected frame 221 set in the periphery of each scanning point 220, by scanning sequentially the circular scanning point 220 in each one pixel along an outer circumference of a painted-out image 210, and a four-angled-part detecting part 34 for detecting the scanning points 220 corresponding to the four values from the lowest value up to the fourth lower value, out of the corner values corresponding to all the scanning points 220, as the four corners of the outline shape 202, and detects the four points with angles from the lowest angle up to the fourth lower angle, out of the outline shape 202, as the four corners of the rectangular frame, irrespective of a distance from the center point of a rectangle circumscribed to the outline shape in the pick-up image imaged with the rectangular frame.
