<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start control device for a diesel engine, properly performing combustion of fuel in a first compression cylinder which is at a compression stroke firstly in engine start. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The start control device (ECU 50) for a diesel engine 10 makes a fuel injection valve 18 inject fuel into the first compression cylinder which is firstly at the combustion stroke in the engine start to perform first combustion. The ECU 50 variably sets a fuel injection amount Q in the first combustion, based on a crank angle of the first compression cylinder during engine stop (a stop crank angle of the first compression cylinder). The ECU 50 reduces the fuel injection amount Q in the first combustion as the stop crank angle of the first compression cylinder gets more advanced. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
