PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus wherein a speed of AE control itself in initialization is accelerated. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging means for consecutively capturing a subject image to produce moving image data; a target setting means which sets a target value for brightness of the moving image data produced by the imaging means; and an exposure control means which changes an exposure state in producing the moving image data in each predetermined cycle and controls the brightness of the moving image data produced by the imaging means to the target value set by the target setting means. When starting the present apparatus, the exposure control means tries to complete the change of the exposure state within the predetermined cycle and thereafter, on the other hand, tries to complete the change of the exposure state in a cycle longer than the predetermined cycle.
