PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately maintain each link by accurately measuring the elongation of the links in a link chain, and to stably produce a film of high quality when the link chain is used for a film drawing device. SOLUTION: First, n and m are assumed to be integers. The link chain where a plurality of links are interconnected is prepared so that the leader and terminal of a link part of a reference length where m links are interconnected can be detected at the same timing by a pair of sensors. The n-th link at the leader of other m links to be measured and the n+m-th link at the terminal are detected by the pair of sensors. In the detection, the time difference between the detection timing of the n-th link, and the detection timing of the n+m-1-th link is determined, the variation amount from the reference length about other m links is determined using the time difference and the moving speed of the link chain.
